In order to help homeowners shop for furnaces and air conditioners, we developed our own proprietary algorithms which weigh a range of criteria and factors to provide an easy-to-compare grade (e.g. B-, A+, etc).
Warranty Grade: It can be difficult to know which brands and models offer the best warranty coverage, particularly because a lot of the key details are hidden in dense warranty documents filled with hard to understand legalese. Thankfully for you, we’ve carefully studied them and created this grading system to account for things like the length AND quality of their guarantee, coverage restrictions and more!
Overall Grade: This grade weighs key factors like efficiency, ENERGY STAR certification, comfort, noise level (for A/Cs), our warranty grade, and more.

The entry-level Amana ASX14 is a relatively affordable air conditioner with a SEER performance rating up to 15. Featuring the brand's innovative engineering and made with Amana’s dedication to high-quality performance, the ASX14 is a more budget-friendly option for Canadians looking for a simple yet effective cooling solution.
This ASX14 model review will explain situations when this air conditioner could be ideal for a Canadian home.
It will talk about the ASX14’s price, key features, warranty details, and efficiency. Plus, it will also compare the ASX14 to three other Amana models so you can see what else is available in terms of tier, price, and features.
In a Nutshell
Average Price (with installation): $3000 - $5000
Top Features
- Mid-efficiency SEER rating of 15
- Efficient scroll compressor
- The Copeland® CoreSense™ Diagnostics system makes troubleshooting potential problems easy to streamline service calls
- Standard sound performance
- Backed by an industry-leading warranty
- Assembled in the United States
The Bottom Line
Although the Amana ASX14 doesn't achieve ENERGY STAR® certification, this unit still delivers cost-effective cooling comfort for the entire home, especially when compared to an older A/C with a standard-efficiency SEER.
Ideal for Canadian homeowners who are looking for a capable system while on a budget, the Amana ASX14 will undoubtedly get the job done, as long as you're cooling the right type of space.
The mid-efficiency SEER and single-stage compressor will work best in smaller spaces or coastal/milder areas that don’t get long heat waves or extended periods of humidity.
But as long as a load calculation shows this model will be powerful enough for your home, then the ASX14 has some great features to improve performance and an excellent warranty. Because it lacks ENERGY STAR certification, it may not qualify for all rebates, but it’s still one of Amana’s more economical models.

Features Overview
The Amana ASX14 promises effective performance thanks to the premium internal components, such as the factory-installed inline filter drier. This part protects the refrigerant system from dirt and moisture to guarantee long-term efficiency and seamless operation.
It’s also powered by a scroll compressor that’s more efficient and quieter than standard compressors, and it should also need less maintenance.
Finally, the ASX14 has the Copeland CoreSense Diagnostics system, which uses the compressor as a sensor to monitor the system non-stop. When a problem arises, an HVAC technician can consult the system to quickly see what went wrong and figure out an accurate solution.
The system can even shut the air conditioner down if it senses a problem that could cause major damage, so not only might you save money on repair bills, but you'll be spared having to deal with even bigger failures.

Warranty Information
The ASX14 doesn't have warranty coverage that’s as extensive as higher-end air conditioning systems from Amana, but it’s still better than a lot of other value-tier or entry-level models.
The warranty coverage for the ASX14 includes a limited 10-year parts warranty and a two-year unit replacement warranty, as long as you register the unit within 60 days of installation.
Unregistered units will be covered by a five-year parts warranty, so you'll lose five years of parts protection and the entire unit replacement warranty if you don’t register.
Registration only takes a few minutes, and it’s well worth it. The registration form is online, and you'll need to fill out your name, the name of the HVAC dealer, the air conditioner’s serial and model numbers, and the installation date.
Comparable Models by Amana
Model Comparison by Price: ASX14 versus ASXC18
The Amana ASX14 is an affordable entry-level unit for Canadian homeowners who don't want to break the bank. By comparison, the ASXC18 costs an average of $5,000 to $6,000+.
However, the ASX14 won't be able to produce the same level of long-term savings compared with the ASXC18’s SEER rating of 19, and the premium model is more likely to qualify for rebates.
Furthermore, the ASXC18 has a more powerful and efficient two-stage compressor that will provide a more even temperature throughout the house, and it will also be more capable when it comes to cooling larger homes, even during heat waves and high humidity.
Other perks that the ASXC18 offers include a lifetime unit replacement warranty, ENERGY STAR certification, communicating technology, and compatibility with Amana’s own smart thermostat.
Model Comparison by Features: ASX14 versus AVXC20
The AVXC20 is the most advanced air conditioner that Amana offers in terms of efficiency and features. It has a variable-speed compressor, a SEER of 24.5, ENERGY STAR certification, Amana’s communicating ComfortBridge technology, and compatibility with the ComfortNet Communications System.
However, the AVXC20 is going to be a lot more expensive because of the high SEER, but it won’t produce significantly more energy savings compared to an air conditioner with a SEER between 16 and 18, so it’s probably too powerful for Canada.
Model Comparison by Tier: ASX14 versus ASX16
The ASX16 is another value-tier model. It’s going to be in a slightly higher price range than the ASX14 because it has a high-efficiency SEER of 16, ENERGY STAR certification, and a lifetime unit replacement warranty. It’s also more likely to qualify for high-efficiency rebates that could make the price comparable to the ASX14.
Although the difference in SEER isn't great, the ASX16 will be a little more powerful and will produce slightly higher energy savings year after year.
Beyond that, the two units are similar. They both have efficient single-stage scroll compressors, Copeland® CoreSense Diagnostics, similar sound performance, and all the same features to protect the unit from damage and increase longevity.
